About the Island...

n align= Looking for your own little tropical paradise? In Roatan, you can bask in the warm tropical sun or enjoy the emerald waters of the Caribbean, whether you are splashing on the beach or taking advantage of over 100 miles of some of the best coral reefs in the world. Follow the footsteps of Christopher Columbus, in 1502, on his fourth voyage to the new world, and discover the Bay Islands of Honduras!

The Islas de la Bahia are known worldwide as one of the favorites diving sites for knowledgeable divers. These islands are the above-water manifestations of the Bonacca Ridge which forms the edge of the Honduran continental shelf and parallels a deep ocean trench, creating an exhilarating section of the Great Western Barrier Reef. Quench your most dire tropical cravings through these emerald islands with white Sandy beaches that fringe the turquoise and indigo waters

Roatan Island is just a two hour flight from Miami, Houston or New Orleans and can be reached from many other locations on such airlines as Lacsa, TACA, Iberia, KLM, Lufthansa, Alitalia, Continental, American. Roatan offers vacationers a wide variety of activities to enhance their vacation experience. English is so widely spoken in the Islands, that some island natives don't even speak Spanish, despite the fact that this is the official language of Honduras!

World class diving , beautiful botanical gardens, a bird sanctuary housing an enormous collection of exotic and tropical birds, a dolphin facility where you can swim with dolphins or take part in a 3 day dolphin trainer program, horseback riding through the shallow water on a deserted beach, and many scenic hiking trails along white sandy beaches and tropical hillsides are just a few of the things Roatan has to offer.

Roatan is a true Caribbean treasure , appealing to vacationers, divers, part-time residents, retirees, and others. Let our unhurried pace relax you -- unwind to "island time" and chill out in our sparkling, clear blue waters. Roatan's warm climate is like the warm greeting you'll receive from the friendly inhabitants, whose ancestral origins are a combination of eight separate cultures that fought and flourished here during the past 400 years. Their colorful history reflects the cultural crossroads from which these islands derive their unique character. Roatan is the most developed of the Bay Islands, with a  new airport terminal, paved roads and modern supermarkets. Although far from cosmopolitan, Roatan has a 20-bed general hospital, a hyperbaric decompression chamber, 24-hour emergency and ambulance service, a number of restaurants, and Roatan Museum, renowned as the finest small museum in Central America.

There's nothing like a walk on Roatan's West Bay Beach, one of the prettiest beaches in the Caribbean. And, you won't want to miss the underwater gardens. An extensive fringing reef system offers spectacular diving and snorkeling among a myriad of invertebrates (some as yet unnamed), countless hard and soft corals, and a profusion of sponges, and or course fish. A drive toward the east end of the island never fails to thrill. Breathtaking views overlooking both shores -- green, green hills gently sloping to brilliant reefs -- are unforgettable.

The Bay Islands are located approximately 40 miles north of Honduras in the Caribbean. Roatan is the largest of the Bay Islands, measuring 29 miles long and 2 miles wide. With a tropical mountainous terrain over-looking the dramatic shore coastline and beautiful sandy beaches, interrupted only occasionally by small villages, Roatan offers the ultimate vacation experience. Just a short distance off shore, it is the world's second largest barrier reef that has made Roatan famous with divers. The average temperature in Roatan is an unbelievable 80° F with the trade winds providing a gentle breeze. Even in the rainy season the weather in Roatan can be compared to that of Florida; periodic showers with plenty of Sun. This rain rarely compromises the diving.

The island has a modern airport, phones, faxes, and paved road; however, Roatan is still laid-back! There are no shopping malls or fancy nightclubs. What Roatan can offer are quiet mornings with a cup of coffee, relaxation by the water with a tropical drink, and of course, diving!

For those of you who cannot be away from the real world for too long, Roatan has opened it's very own "cybercafe". A small, friendly, roadside cafe where you can send and recieve email, faxes, personal calls, etc. All while enjoying a strong cup of Honduran coffee, or an herbal concoction brewed by the cybercafe's proprietors!
